Be different today.
Tell yourself how much you enjoy your work. Whatever you do that’s creative, whether it be painting, photography, cooking, woodworking, or writing – remind yourself how much you like doing that thing.
Even if what you do is figuring out new ways to amuse your cat.
Whatever you do, keep reminding yourself that inspiration is important, that you enjoy its company, and that you’re glad to have it around.
In “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert, she reminds us that our creativity is a gift, and we should frequently tell it we appreciate having it around. As she puts it, “by saying you delight in your work, you draw inspiration near. …because inspiration – like all of us -appreciates being appreciated.”
By expressing that appreciation, we draw our source of creativity nearer. It’s a law of attraction rule that whatever you spend your time talking about, whatever you spend your brainpower thinking about, that’s what you’ll draw into your life.
If you want to be inspired, tell your inspiration source how much you love having it around, how much richer it makes your life, how you’re willing to ride with it to the end of the line.
And follow through. Because words without work accomplish nothing.
The words themselves start to pull things towards you, but the work, and the joy you experience in the work, keep those things heading in your direction.
Yes, sometimes the work feels like work.
Sometimes it feels like you’re pulling a beach towel through a two-inch knothole.
Keep pulling.
Keep edging that tiny bit through each day, every day, until you get the darn towel all the way through.
That’s when the ideas will flood through that tiny hole, fast enough to nearly drown you, inspiration to last a lifetime.
And keep appreciating that source of inspiration, no matter how hard it may be.
The Universe wants you to create, wants you to express yourself, wants you to use her inspiration. Indulge her, thank her, and get to work!
Have a blessed day today!
